AMUK Member Spotlight Interview with CREAT3D

Additive Manufacturing UK (AMUK) in partnership with the MTA (Manufacturing Technologies Association) exists to establish the UK as a world leader in the development and adoption of Additive Manufacturing technology.

As part of AMUK's partnership, they are running a series of videos on their members.

We covered a number of topics, such as where Additive Manufacturing is currently used, future advances and why CREAT3D became a member of AMUK.

How is Additive being used?

"Traditionally, people perceive Additive Manufacturing to be a tool for prototyping. That certainly was the case up until a few years ago, but now we have also moved into printing parts for production such as tooling and fixtures, items that support your manufacturing processes, reducing lead times and saving money", explains Simon Chandler, Managing Director.

This is just a small aspect of how Additive Manufacturing is currently being used with UK engineering and manufacturing firms. We have also seen a large increase in the number of companies using Additive for end-part production, particularly for low volume, high-value parts, something that the UK is well equipped to produce.

What are the future advancements?

"AI will become increasingly useful in the assistance of design creation, as well as in the back end of machine management. For example, AI being used to monitor what the printers are producing, to ensure it not only conforms with the design, but also the material properties. This means that users will be assured the parts can be used reliably in production environments" highlights Simon Chandler.

Why did CREAT3D become a member of AMUK?

Sabina Gonzalez-George, Director, explains the benefits of being an AMUK member:

"Having a voice with AMUK, gives Additive Manufacturing a voice in the MTA, which in turn gives us a voice in the UK government. We think Manufacturing in the UK is awesome. We have huge capabilities here, we just need to take it to the next level. Sharing applications and success stories is a great way to show how, where and why to use Additive Manufacturing to benefit our industries."
