Markforged Onyx filament is a high quality 3D printing material for use with the Markforged range of 3D printers.

Onyx is nylon embedded with micro carbon-fibres producing prints with good stiffness and a high temperature resistance, up to 145°C, making it ideal for use in parts subjected to higher loads, stresses or temperatures.

Onyx can be used stand-alone or in conjunction with adding reinforced fibres in Kevlar, Fibreglass, High Temperature Fibreglass or Carbon Fibre. With a matt black appearance, Onyx can also be used to produce end-use component parts or parts that can be provided directly to the client without additional finishing.

Each MarkForged Onyx filament spool contains approx. 800cm3 of material.

Compatible only with the Markforged Mark Two, Markforged X3, Markforged X5, Markforged X7, Onyx One and Onyx Pro models.

Does Markforged Onyx work with all Markforged composite printers?

Markforged Onyx material is compatible with the Industrial Series (X3, X5, X7), Mark Two, Onyx One and Onyx Pro 3D printers.

Is Markforged Onyx as moisture sensitive as Nylon?

Yes, Markforged advise taking the same precautions with Onyx as you would to keep Nylon properly stored and dry.

Why use Onyx?

Onyx is an ideal material for printing parts that are stiffer (with or without continuous fibre reinforcement), and can withstand higher loads, temperatures or impacts. Furthermore, due to the make-up of Onyx, prints can be used for final end-use components.

Can I switch regularly between Nylon & Onyx?

For those printer models which can use Nylon or Onyx, printing significant amounts of Onyx changes the chemical makeup of the print head in a way that tailors it towards printing Onyx. If you wish to continue using both materials, it would be advisable to purchase a second print head or printer.
