Does colorFabb steelFill work with all 3D printers?
The colorFabb testlab features a wide range of popular 3D printers. colorFabb continuously test their products on a range of 3D printers to check the quality of the materials produced and to develop exciting new materials.
steelFill is likely to require some adjustment to your 3D printer settings to achieve the best results. Furthermore, due to the high steel content, it can be an abrasive material and it is recommended to use with hardened steel nozzles.
What are the processing guidelines for colorFabb steelFill filament?
- Recommended extruder temperature: 195-210C°C
- Recommended platform temperature: 50°C (if available, heated bed not required)
Are there any tips for printing in colorFabb steelFill?
Yes, colorFabb recommend using layer heights of 0.2mm up to 0.27mm when using 0.4mm nozzles, as this gives a good flow with most standard print speed settings. If printing with smaller layer heights, it is recommended to adjust either the print speed (increase) or reduce the temperature slightly to accommodate for lower volume of material being extruded.
steelFill is similar in performance to bronzeFill. Generally, steelFill will not need extensive cooling, starting with 50% cooling is a good place to begin, with adjustments as per your model and printer requirements. In terms of retraction settings, they should be similar to PLA settings, with retraction at a minimum.

Is a heated bed necessary for printing with colorFabb steelFill?
No, a heated bed is not necessary for printing in steelFill. Should you wish to use a heated bed, the recommended platform temperature is around 50°C.
